We have great pleasure in announcing that works will commence on site for a new primary care facility and library in Knebworth. The building will be the new home of the Knebworth & Marymead Surgery, whose current premises are no longer suitable for modern general practice.
The existing Knebworth library site will be redeveloped to provide a new purpose built GP surgery (552m2), an integrated pharmacy (86m2) and a replacement library (221m2). GPI are investing in excess of £3m, where the overall development will provide 859m2 of new state-of the-art accommodation, alongside new and expanded car parking facilities.
The re-development will allow the practice to remain at the heart of their community and provides a professionally designed, long-term and sustainable solution for 12,000 local patients and the wider area. The scheme has been designed to satisfy BREEAM excellent criteria, the foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.
Full planning permission has been granted and the commencement of the temporary library fit out works within St Martin’s Church, Knebworth are to commence on the 12th November. The library service will operate from the church until development of the new library has been completed towards the end of 2019.
The GPI team are grateful for the assistance of NHS England, East & North Hertfordshire CCG and Hertfordshire County Council.
We will keep you up to date with further progress in due course!
