The Marlborough street surgery has been providing general medical services to the population of Devonport for many years and like a number GP practices across UK, their premises had gradually become outdated, undersized and no longer fit for purpose.
Recognising the situation had become unsustainable, the partners at Marlborough street surgery began exploring new premises options that would enable them to continue providing services in the heart of community, whilst accommodating new services, patients and staff. Having initially secured the preferred site themselves in 2013, the practice appointed GPI as their preferred development partner to take the project forward from concept to realisation of the new premises.
GPI provided all the capital funding and development expertise required to deliver the new medical facility, including the evaluation of design layouts, planning submissions, commissioning of reports for planning applications, construction costs and all the related professional/consultant fees.
The project was managed by GPI’s Regional Director Roger Serginson, commenting as follows:
“Prior to our involvement the practice had invested significant time and energy in securing the site and evolving potential mixed use schemes for the location. Having been appointed and trusted by the GP partners to take forward their plans it has been particularly satisfying to successfully deliver the new premises and witness the transformation in the working environment and patient experience.
The practice can now provide the level and range of health care services they have long wished to provide for patients but were prevented from delivering from the previous outdated buildings.”
