GPI are pleased to announce the new Devonport Health Centre has opened its doors for patients in the local community thanks to the combined efforts of GPI and Marlborough Street Surgery whose previous premises were no longer suitable for modern general practice health care.
The state-of-the-art facility is situated adjacent to the Cumberland Centre on Damerel Close and provides 853m2 of accommodation for 9,000 patients, including 8 consulting rooms, 2 treatment rooms, 23 designated parking spaces and an on-site pharmacy operated by local pharmacy group Poolearth Limited.
The project has won much praise from the local community, other health providers in Plymouth and patients are now able to access a range of additional services, all under one roof.
Not only is the development an example of innovation in service delivery, it also evidences GPI’s commitment to building sustainable, environmentally responsible premises. The scheme has been designed to satisfy BREEAM criteria, the foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings. The premises is one of the first non-hospital projects to be delivered in Plymouth for many years, a significant achievement which reflects GPI’s commitment to developing premises that are both sustainable and cost effective for the Practices who occupy them.
Commenting on the success of the project Dr Steven Nash, Partner for Devonport Health Centre, explains:
“The practice thought long and hard about relinquishing our new build project to a third party developer. We needn’t have worried as GPIC worked closely with us to provide a state of the art building with the space and flexibility to house our multi-discipline team. Roger Serginson, our point of contact was single minded in jumping a few hurdles shepherding the project from conception. Originally working form cramped premises it has been a revelation to have space, light and all the other benefits a modern build provides. Without doubt the building is one of the finest in the South West and has been future proofed for our imminent expansion.”
GPI’s Regional Director Roger Serginson was responsible for delivering the project. When asked about his involvement he responded:
“Prior to our involvement the practice had invested significant time and energy in securing the site and evolving potential mixed use schemes for the location. Having been appointed and trusted by the GP partners to take forward their plans it has been particularly satisfying to successfully deliver the new premises and witness the transformation in the working environment and patient experience.
The practice can now provide the level and range of health care services they have long wished to provide for patients but were prevented from delivering from the previous outdated buildings.”
